SATELLITE DERIVED BATHYMETRY FOR MONITORING NEARSHORE DYNAMICS

چکیده

Research on the physical, ecological, and environmental processes in coastal zone traditionally rely availability of accurate seafloor topography (bathymetry) information. This information becomes increasingly important as environments are under pressure by climate change anthropogenic developments. Nonetheless, bathymetry shallow nearshore waters is only marginally monitored cost- time-intensive survey techniques that dependent in-field conditions. Here, Satellite Derived Bathymetry (SDB) offers a valuable alternative to enrich available bathymetric data both sparse rich environments, reducing need for in-situ measurements future. The high spatial temporal resolution satellite imagery yields more comprehensive understanding our coast its dynamics. Yet, consistently mapping still challenging, majority currently empirical SDB algorithms heavily calibration purposes. In this study we present methodology assessing horizontal morphodynamics using uncalibrated reflectance signal from sensors while focusing Friese Zeegat, tidal inlet Dutch Wadden Sea.

Non-linear complex principal component analysis of nearshore bathymetry

Complex principal component analysis (CPCA) is a useful linear method for dimensionality reduction of data sets characterized by propagating patterns, where the CPCA modes are linear functions of the complex principal component (CPC), consisting of an amplitude and a phase. The use of non-linear 5 methods, such as the neural-network based circular non-linear principal component analysis (NLPCA....

Implementation of Algorithm for Satellite-Derived Bathymetry using Open Source GIS and Evaluation for Tsunami Simulation

Accurate and high resolution bathymetric data is a necessity for a wide range of coastal oceanographic research topics. Active sensing methods, such as ship-based soundings and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR), are expensive and time consuming solutions. Therefore, the significance of Satellite-Derived Bathymetry (SDB) has increased in the last ten years due to the availability of multi-cons...

4SM: A Novel Self-Calibrated Algebraic Ratio Method for Satellite-Derived Bathymetry and Water Column Correction

All empirical water column correction methods have consistently been reported to require existing depth sounding data for the purpose of calibrating a simple depth retrieval model; they yield poor results over very bright or very dark bottoms. In contrast, we set out to (i) use only the relative radiance data in the image along with published data, and several new assumptions; (ii) in order to ...

Remote Sensing-Derived Bathymetry of Lake Poopó

Located within the Altiplano at 3,686 m above sea level, Lake Poopó is remarkably shallow and very sensitive to hydrologic recharge. Progressive drying has been observed in the entire Titicaca-Poopó-Desaguadero-Salar de Coipasa (TPDS) system during the last decade, causing dramatic changes to Lake Poopó’s surface and its regional water supplies. Our research aims to improve understanding of Lak...

Determination Of Nearshore Wave Conditions And Bathymetry From X-Band Radar Systems

Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory (POL) deployed an X-band (9.8GHz, 3cm wavelength) marine radar during the European COAST3D field experiments in Teignmouth, UK. The study site is a complex three-dimensional tidal inlet. A sequence of 64 radar images was collected at time interval of 2.25s every hour. Although realistic-looking wave patterns are observed in the radar images, it is still unclear...
